Thankful Memorial Episcopal Church
1607 W 43rd St, Chattanooga, TN 37409
We're so glad you found us! Welcome to our spot on the internet where we will give you more info about this dance that we love and how to come dance with us.
Please check out the calendar below for our most up to date list of dances. We have regular dances on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. The beginner's lesson starts at 7:00pm, and the dance starts at 7:30pm. We encourage everyone to show up for the lesson to help newcomers. Due to band scheduling constraints, some dances may be held with recorded music. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, $12 seniors, and a maximum of $30 for families.
Everyone is invited to join our welcoming and family-friendly community, and enjoy this lively, traditional social dance. No partners are necessary. All dances are taught with walk-throughs. Wear comfortable clothes and bring an extra pair of clean, soft-soled shoes for dancing. Please bring your own water bottle or cup for water.
Contra dance is a social folk dance form where couples form long lines facing each other and move through a series of choreographed steps, guided by a caller who instructs the dancers. It's often described as a more energetic and community-focused form of social dancing, with origins in English, Scottish, and French country dances.
The Chattanooga Traditional Dance Society was formed to keep this dance tradition alive , and hold dance events to promote contra dancing in the Chattanooga region.
